“I wish George would have seen this by now,” George Floyd’s brother, Philoniz Floyd, told the March attendees in Washington, speaking from the Lincoln Memorial.

Floyd said, “This is what I am going through. I am for George, for Brianna, for Ahmed, for Jacob, for Pamela Turner, for Michael Brown. Trevon and anyone else lost their lives.

Floyd notes that it has never been more “clear” that change is needed and happening.

“It’s not yet clear that change is happening now, because it’s happening now. Because we demand it. Everyone here has made a commitment. Because they won’t come here right now for any other reason,” Floyd said.

Floyd urged leaders to enact legislation “to protect us.” He thanked attendees and supporters across the country who have supported his and his brothers’ cause.

“My brother George is looking down right now. He’s grateful for all he’s doing right now. You’re showing all the sympathy and enthusiasm, and right now I’m enjoying every last bit of it. If it weren’t for you.” I don’t know where I am right now because you are all driving me. ‘

Floyd is also among other family members of the victim of police violence who are speaking out in protest today. His officer, George Floyd, a 46-year-old black man, died in May after requesting help because a police officer used a knee on Floyd’s neck to pin him to the ground.

His death sparked protests across the country and pushed for police reform.

Correction: An earlier version of this post incorrectly spelled George Floyd’s brother’s first name. His name is Filoniz Floyd.
