The list of culprits in the culmination of these jets is long.
You can start with head coach Adam Gas if you like, and now it seems inevitable that he will pay off his job at some point. You can blame owner Christopher Johnson, who chose or hung up on the decision makers who got the jets on the issue. You can continue to draw quarterback Sam Darnold as he spins his wheels and has not progressed. You can blame former general manager Mike McGuinn for being terrible at acquiring talent. You can blame the players for playing dumb football.
It’s all fair.
Don’t forget the only guy who has escaped the season by blaming this season, but some deserve it – just Dou Douglas. No one expected Douglas to work a miracle when he was hired in June 2019. Douglas has a long-term reconstruction project on his hands. He got the scholarship last season because it was taken after free agency and draft. This year, the expectation was a moderate improvement in the roster, filling in some holes in the team and putting up with a respectable group.
The initial return has not been good.
Douglas ’rebuilt offensive line doesn’t look any better than the group that played in the second half of last season. On Thursday night, Darnold was fired six times. The Broncos entered the game with four sacks in their first three games. In addition to pass protection, there are no holes for the running back. If you remove Darnold’s rushing yards, the Jets averaged 2.5 yards per carry on Thursday.
Douglas has taken the risk of counting in free agency this year. He stayed away from big money players, preferring to buy discounts to stock his offensive line. He signed off on discount prices to George Fent, Greg Van Rotten and Corner McGovern. Douglas’s philosophy is what he took with Ravens from his mentor Ozzy News – “the right player, the right price.” That means barely spending big. It’s a sound strategy that builds cap-space flexibility in the future, but you got your player evaluated right. At the moment, it seems extremely important to Douglas on the line, especially with Van Rotten and McGover.
After that, you see a huge receiver. Douglas let Robbie Anderson walk into the free agency, which has really hurt Darnold and the crime. Anderson has nothing to do with Jerry Rice, but he is an effective receiver who rarely misses games. Anderson already has two 100-yard games for the Panthers, who signed him to an annual two-year, કરોડ 200 million contract. That deal should match the jets. Instead, they signed Brexit Perimen on the cheap (5. 5 million) and got what they paid for, as Perimen has lost two games and a third of most. He has only five catches so far.
Douglas’s other free-agent signature who had the developments on Thursday was cornerback Pierre Desir, who was signed by the Jets for 3.75 million. Will allowed two touchdowns and there were two contradictions, one returned for a touchdown. Despite those plays, Desheer has been responsible in the coverage so far.
These roster shortcomings have left the Jets without any margin for error. They need to play close-up football to win. If they do too much fine, as they did on Thursday, they are wreaking havoc. If they leave the pass, they have gone bad. If they stall in the red zone, it will bite them in the butt.
No one is arguing that gas works well. But anyone looking at this objectively can see that he has been introduced to gun fight with a water pistol. On Friday, Gas was asked if the team had enough talent. He said he expects many players to return from the injured reserve this week to help.
“And our friends, they have to do a good job of sticking together and stopping any noise from outside and getting better every day in practice,” Gass said. “I talked to all of them today [how] Fracturing is not an option. We’re in four games, keeping our heads down, going to work, correcting mistakes, fixing absolutely non-talent based stuff and doing those things first, and then your result will be different. ”
There are plenty of people’s fingerprints on this 0-4 start between players and owners, including Douglas.
