After seeing a loved one deal with health issues as a result of poor nutrition, I changed my lifestyle by eating a low carb, intermittent fasting 18: 6 diet and camp gladiator boot camp workouts.

I was always overweight, and obesity runs high in my family. Growing up, I was bullied for being overweight, but that made me want to eat more. I used food to cope with stress, frustration, sadness and anger. Sodas and sweets were like my cigarettes or medicine of choice. Anytime I had a bad day, that’s what I wanted.

Fast forward to July 19, 2016: I sat on my bed crying uncontrollably at my grandmother’s loss seven months earlier. I was sad and depressed for months. My grandmother had a lot of health problems, many of them due to her lack of proper nutrition. I would go with her to the doctor’s appointment, and the doctor would request her to change her diet. She was old and stuck in her ways, so she didn’t come. However, he was awake for me. If I haven’t changed, I’ll go the same way.

I joined a metabolic program and lost about 80 pounds. But after moving to the big city, I got it all back.

It wasn’t until March 2020 that I became consistently consistent in making lifestyle changes.

This includes the way I look at food. I chose a low carb and intermittent fasting plan because after trying many weight loss methods, this combo was the only one I felt I could survive for the rest of my life.

I fast for 18 hours and eat in a six-hour window (an 18: 6 schedule), and I usually eat only two meals a day during my eating window. This is the eating method that works for * I * – but you should always check with a dietitian or doctor before making major changes to your diet.

Here’s what I eat in a day:

  • breakfast: Two eggs and pieces of either bacon or sausage.
  • Lunch: Chicken thighs and green beans.
  • Breakfast: Pork rands
  • Dinner: Country-style ribs and cabbage.
  • Dessert: Sugar-free cheesecake pudding.

I went to the gym and started doing cardio five or seven days a week.

I am now part of a boot camp called Camp Gladiator which operates on a four-week cycle that includes: endurance, strength and agility and interval training. I love the Camp Gladiator community because of the support and responsibility I received from other participants. Now I also do dance cardio for a low impact workout.

These three changes have also had a huge impact on my overall weight loss.

  • I changed the way I looked at food. I had to restrain my emotions to control what I put in my body. I really follow the motto that I “eat to live and not live to eat.”
  • I focused on finding my nutrition first. I focused on my nutrition before thinking about incorporating my exercise routine. If you do not consume proper nutrition, you will not see the results of how much exercise you do.
  • I did For me. If your goal is to lose weight, make sure you are doing it for yourself and your own health. Don’t try to lose weight because someone said you should. This is for travel Me. I set small goals and, once I get there, give myself something other than food.

In about seven to eight months I have lost 70 pounds.

Being able to see my body transform is by far the most rewarding thing. I have multiple degrees that I have worked hard to achieve, but this weight loss has shown me another level of determination that I did not know I had. I feel so much better now.
