When Ford redesigned the 2017 F-150 Raptor, it closed the V8 for an EcoBoost V6 to the slight disappointment of those who believe there is no replacement for displacement. That, that audience can leave a tentative sigh of relief, because based on audio from the latest Raptor spy video, Ford’s performance car can get those two extra cylinders back.
Delivered by the people at F150Gen14 is video and, more crucially, audio from a camouflaged truck with clear body lines F-150 and some suspicious chunky tires. It has already been confirmed that the next-gen Raptor is coming as a 2021 model, so the key takeaway here is not that this truck exists, but rather the sounds it makes. It’s not really enough for us to definitively say that the next Raptor will get a V8, but for what it’s worth, the gruesome grin that comes out of this thing certainly sounds deeper than the song that is sung by the current models’ turbo 3.5 -liter.
Listen for yourself. Honest warning, the audio in this clip is certainly not great, but the truck can be heard most clearly at the beginning of the video and then at another junction around the 2:30 mark.
