Some countries come to zero cases of the coronavirus without a vaccine. Could we see that in the DC area?
‘In Europe, when it went away, it really went away. In countries, numbers are declining and we are now seeing much lower numbers, say, now in New York City, ”said Dr. Joshua Sharfstein, vice dean of public health and community involvement practices at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Good health.
He said countries that were able to get 30 cases per million a day could open schools successfully.
“If we can get to lower levels, we will be able to do more things safely,” he said.
New Zealand has marked 100 days on Saturday since its last case.
Sharfstein said we are not close to zero in the DC area yet, but it is possible for counting cases of coronavirus to go down without a vaccine.
“We are not going to get to zero, but it is realistic to expect that we can get lower,” Sharfstein said.
