With the launch of the Pixel 4A in August Gust, Google annoyed two other phones that make up its 2020 lineup. The Pixel 5 and Pixel 4A (5G) are here now, although Google also calls the latter device by a slightly different name.
A lot of people already consider non-flagship phones to be quite bizarre as Google announced on Wednesday. The inclusion of 5G necessitates a different chipset than the regular 4A (765 vs 730), while the company has also decided to add a dual camera array that has a wide-angle lens.
Despite those two key hardware improvements – in addition to the big screen and battery, it’s still a device in the 4A line. Putting the specs aside, Google teased it in August as the Pixel 4A (5G) – pronounced directly. Without paresis, though – it was unveiled like at Launch Night Inn, but the Google Store throws that naming into question.
In less than three places on the Google Store homepage, the phone is not referred to as “Pixel 4A with 5G” – cover image, main product carousel and dedicated card.
It’s also the brand on the product list in the top-right corner. However, after reading the page you start to see “Pixel 4A (5G)”, while the accessories for the device also use that name. The top navigation of the Google Store also uses the bracket version.
Looking at the blog post launched from Google, it is constantly “Pixel 4A (5G)” again, but the comparison chart at the bottom indicates it is “with 5G”.
The extra “with” is a bit vague and works to extend the name of the device. After the teaser, Google seems to have settled on “Pixel 4A (5G)” in the beginning to launch another version.
There is a small discrepancy in this grand scheme, but it adds unnecessary confusion to the already strange part of the hardware and strategy.
