Zlatan Ibrahimovic tested positive for COVID-19.
AC Milan forward Ibrahimovic has had a strong start to the new season with the Rossoneri, scoring both goals in a 2-0 win over Bologna on Monday.
The Swedish hitman also scored the first of Milan’s two goals in their Europa League qualifying win over Shamrock Rovers last Thursday.
But he tested positive for Covid-19, in tests conducted at the club’s Milanello training ground on Thursday.
He is not the only Milan player to test positive, and defender Leo Duarte tested positive on Tuesday.
Duarte was also part of the squad that traveled to Tallaght.
Positive tests will not affect the continuation of the Rovers’ league campaign, as they push for a first title since 2011.
Milan will face Bodo-Glimt in the Europa League on Thursday night.
The Rossoneri confirmed the news in a statement, stating: “Zlatan Ibrahimović has tested positive for Covid-19 after a second round of hyssop tests before tonight’s match against Bodø / Glimt.
The entire team and staff had been retested after Duarte’s positive earlier this week.
Both men must now spend time in quarantine, and Ibrahimovic’s absence will be a huge blow to Stefano Pioli’s men.
Ibrahimovic may turn 39 on October 5, but he started the 2020-21 season in good condition, scoring three goals in Milan’s first two games.
He remains a key focal point for their attack, but now they face being without him until after the next international break.
