A Dublin barge restaurant has issued an “emotional update” after it was finally allowed to reopen.

La Peneche, which is located on the Grand Canal at Mespil Road, initially tried to reopen last Thursday.

But they were closed by gardai because the business license issued by Waterways Ireland, which runs the canal, specifies that the barge must be in motion to operate.

The restaurant’s manager, Shiful Islam, told Dublin Live this week that he had spent thousands of dollars on inventory and begged the authority to allow him to trade.

Those please showed success with the restaurant on social media this morning to confirm that it would reopen today.

They said: “We have the go-ahead to trade with Waterways Ireland.

“We will open to go today starting at 5pm!

“Let’s take this opportunity to thank everyone for the support they have given us.”

Then the restaurant posted an additional update to say that they would be opening even earlier to enjoy the great weather.

They wrote: “The sun has risen. We have decided to open at 1:00 pm for lunch for coffees, food, etc. to go.

“Bring a picnic blanket, sit on the edge of the canal and enjoy the scenery.

“Remember to respect the environment and use bins, let’s take care of our channel and public spaces.”
