Garadí said that “the flooding of the Owenglin River has caused the temporary closure of parts of the city of Clifden.”
They added: “Bridge Street is currently closed and a small number of residents have been evacuated.
“Motorists are advised to avoid Clifden Town and use alternate routes if traveling to Roundstone and Ballyconneely.”
The Gardaí and the emergency services are on the scene.
Previously, hundreds of students were sent home early from school due to flooding.
High school students from Clifden Community School and students from Scoil Mhuire NS were sent home early on Garda’s advice.
AA Roadwatch has reported flooding in the area that caused road closures.
“The N59 is closed in both directions at Kylemore due to flooding,” they said.
“Just east of Clifden, the N59 is only one lane due to flooding at the Waterloo Bridge, and traffic is slow both ways on the approach.
“Further east from here, the N59 has a lane in Recess, also due to flooding.”
They have urged motorists to exercise more caution when traveling this route.
In the south and east, morning bouts of rain will lead to drier weather this afternoon.
However, the rain in Connacht and Ulster will spread to the southeast tonight.

Thursday “will be a bright day with spells of sunshine and scattered showers,” according to Met Éireann, with the most frequent showers in the west and north.
The weekend is expected to be mixed with an anticipated “windy and rainy weather regime”.
On Friday there will be spells of sunshine and scattered showers.
The rains will be frequent in Connacht and Ulster, but will be more isolated elsewhere.
Saturday will be a similar day with rains “spreading east across the country.”
Met Éireann said current indications for Sunday “suggest that some heavy rains are possible in the western areas on Sunday, but with good sunshine between the rains.”
