The last Irish millionaire bought his winning € 4m lottery ticket in a small town in Clare.
A Quick Pick ticket purchased at Talty’s Mace Circle K in Lisseycasey took the mega jackpot in the draw on Saturday.
The local small business has been run by the Talty family for almost half a century in the small town of just 400 people.
And Cathal Talty, owner of the winning store, said it was the first time his store had sold a gold ticket.
He said: “We are absolutely delighted to have sold the winning lottery ticket.
“Since the weekend there was a lot of local speculation about where the winning ticket was and then when the call came from our representative from the National Lottery, I thought: ‘This has to do with the winning ticket, it could be us’ and I went down and behold, it was!
“My family has run this business for over 45 years at Lisseycasey, ever since my parents TJ and Maire installed it, and it is the first time that we have sold a winning National Lottery ticket, so we are very excited.”
“Most of our business these days is from the local community. Before the sanitary restrictions, we would have had many exchanges, as Lisseycasey is a gateway to West Clare and many tourists would have passed on the way to the West Clare coast, but obviously that has calmed down at the moment.
“However, this is great news for our city and I hope he will be one of our regular customers. Whoever the lucky person is, I am sure that the 4 million euros will find a good home.”
But Lotto bosses continue to call on players to review their tickets as the winner has yet to appear.
