A woman was hospitalized after the roof of her apartment in the city center collapsed on her.
Joyce Staunton, 47, has lived in Dublin’s Greek Street Apartments her entire life.
She took over the property at 16 after her parents passed away and lives there with her son.
But on Thursday morning, she was rushed to the hospital with injuries to her head and face after part of the ceiling collapsed around her room windows.
Joyce told the Irish Mirror: “Much of the ceiling collapsed.
“He caught me on the side of the face and on the shoulder and I ended up in the ER for four hours.
“More of that is after falling on me and my neighbor today when we were cleaning.
“New curtains, new floors, everything that has come in is new and everything is destroyed by the dust from the falling wall. I wouldn’t even leave the dog there. “
Water damage is the cause, and Joyce says a crack has caused moisture to seep into the walls and ceiling of both her apartment and her neighbor’s.
His cousin Angelo lives next door, but is now paralyzed on one side of his body after suffering a stroke and requires constant care.
He has also ended up in hospital, where he now remains, after falling on the wet floor in the middle of the night.
Joyce has invested 14,000 euros of her own money in improvements to her apartment, including new floors, windows, curtains and paint.
Initially he was under the impression that moisture had entered the windows before the crack was discovered.
Joyce spent € 12,000 on new windows that
they were installed last week.
Dublin City Council told the Irish Mirror that the Home Maintenance Section is investigating the complaints and will contact the tenants directly.
Added any structural issues in the apartment and the one next to it will be fixed ASAP.
