A woman felt unsafe after calling a man on a Galway beach for watching women changing clothes.
NUIG teacher Dr. Sheila Garrity was swimming off Silverstrand beach last Sunday when the grisly incident occurred.
Dr. Garrity saw a man, described as in his 40s, staring at two younger women after coming out of the water.
Sheila told Newstalk Breakfast: “I came out of the water and was in this area to change, these young ladies maybe around 20 came out at the same time so they were under the same cover.
“And then a man came out of the water and was changing and that’s okay, that’s what happens, you try to mind your own business and try to change as modestly as you can and keep your eyes down.

“I realized that I was watching the young women change, without looking, I was turned around and I saw them change and I don’t know what happened to me, maybe it was my maternal instinct.
“So I called him up and said ‘could you stop watching young women change and maybe look ahead?’
Sheila said the man paused for a moment, but quickly ignored his calls and started again.
She added: “He stopped, he stopped for a few moments, he didn’t recognize me, he didn’t look at me.
“And then he turned his head and started looking again, so I told him again.
“At this stage, the young women gathered their things and went to their car. I thought, oh no, I was left alone here, so I gathered my things and moved to the bank closest to the beach.
“So he followed me, took me by surprise and started yelling at me.
“He acted as if he had the right to do what he was doing.”
At this point, the speaker called her husband to pick her up because she felt insecure.
Dr. Garrity said this is too common a fact and should be pointed out.
Gardai confirmed that they are investigating the incident, but no arrests have been made.
A Garda spokesperson said: “Gardaí is investigating a public order incident that occurred in Silverstrand Co. Galway on Saturday 1 September at approximately 6.30pm.
“Ongoing investigation”.
