Woman arrested in investigation into misappropriation of 1.2 million euros in North Dublin Credit Union

A WOMAN has been arrested as part of an investigation into the misappropriation of funds worth 1.2 million euros in a credit union in North Dublin.

The woman, in her 60s, was arrested on suspicion of crimes contrary to the 2001 Criminal Justice Act.

She is currently being held at Balbriggan Garda station in Co Dublin.

Police have said the arrest represents a “significant development” of fraudulent activity at the financial institution.

Gardai has said that investigations are ongoing.

A spokesperson said: “Gardai investigates the embezzlement of funds worth € 1.2 million in a North Dublin credit union today, 10/12/2020, arrested a woman on suspicion of crimes against Criminal Justice ( Theft and Fraud Crimes) Act 2001.

“This arrest represents a significant advance in a long-standing investigation into fraudulent activities at the financial institution.

“The woman, in her 60s, is currently detained at Balbriggan Garda station under section 4 of the 1984 Criminal Justice Act.

“Investigations are ongoing.”
