A woman in her 40s was killed in an alleged traffic collision in Newbridge, Co Kildare, on Monday night.
The Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly after 8 pm after the pedestrian was discovered seriously injured on Thomas Street in Newbridge.
It is understood that the woman was hit by a vehicle, which later appears to have fled the scene. The woman was rushed by ambulance to Naas General Hospital, but was pronounced dead a short time later.
A post-mortem examination will be conducted, the result of which will determine the course of the Garda investigation. The local coroner has also been notified of the death, Gardaí said.
An Garda Síochána calls for witnesses to the traffic collision to come forward. A Garda spokesperson said that “anyone who has witnessed this incident or who has camera footage (including dash cam) of the area at the time should contact the investigating Gardaí.”
