Where is the Irish actor who played Joffrey on Game of Thrones now? From world fame to sad reality

Jack Gleeson rose to fame in the early 2010s when he played Joffrey Baratheon on Game Of Thrones.

The young man from Cork became a massive public figure with his role in one of the biggest television series of all time.

And playing King Joffrey, Jack was one of the most hated characters, which was a compliment for his incredible performance.

But ever since (spolier alert) his character was killed on the show, he has gone relatively unnoticed on the film and television scene.

So where is Jack Gleeson now? Well, this is what we know and how it got to where it is.

Sad realization after Game of Thrones

After such a promising start to his acting career, the young man seemed to realize that perhaps acting was no longer for him.

In an interview after the show, the then 21-year-old said he stopped enjoying the career as much as he used to.

He told Entertainment Weekly: “The answer is not interesting or wordy. I’ve been acting since I was 8 years old. I just stopped enjoying it as much as I used to.

“And now there is the prospect of doing it for a living, whereas until now it was always something I did to have fun with my friends, or in the summer to have fun.

“I enjoyed it. When you make a living from something, it changes your relationship with it. It’s not that I hate it, it’s just not what I want to do.”

It was also speculated that stress and public abuse due to his character may have played a role.

What are you doing today?

The now 28-year-old from Kinsale has largely moved away from acting in a big way, but is building a portfolio in the theater.

Gleeson is currently playing a role in an online streaming adaptation of Mark O’Connell’s Wellcome Award-winning book, To Be a Machine.

The show is being run as an experiment through streaming and viewers must upload a video of themselves before starting the show.

It looks a bit different too, but that’s to be expected in the six years since many people last saw it, although they would still recognize it on the street.
