Shane Filan shared with fans his utter anguish following the death of his father Peter.

Last night it was revealed that the Westlife star’s father had passed away just ten months after the death of his mother Mae.

And sharing his grief today, Shane broke his silence to speak on the news and tell fans:

“Yesterday, Sunday, October 4, they broke my heart. I lost the most important man in my entire life, my dad Peter.

Shane continued, “He was my best friend, my guide throughout my life, and an absolutely amazing father.”

“I cannot thank the staff at St Vincent Hospital enough for the incredible care they have all given you over the past year. I would also like to thank all the westlife fans and friends around the world for all your kind messages at the very sad time. [sic]

“His funeral will be private for the family due to all current restrictions and security for all.”

Shane ended the statement by saying: “For those who want to do something in his memory, you can make a small donation for cancer trials, that is, for other families in the future.

“He was one of the kings and now he will meet the love of his life of 55 years, my mother Mae Together forever Thank you, love, always Shane & Family.”

Shane is one of seven children, including siblings, Finbarr, Peter, Yvonne, Liam, Denise, and Máiréad.

The sad news comes later and her brothers lost their mother Mae last year.

The Sligo native paid tribute to his late beloved mother earlier this year with a moving post on Mother’s Day.

Sharing a photo of the couple sitting in the sun, Shane wrote, “Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mother in heaven … I love this photo of us.”

Shane’s Westlife bandmate Nicky Byrne previously revealed to RSVP Magazine that Shane turned to him for support when Mae sadly passed away.

Having lost his father suddenly in 2009, Nicky said he understood the pain and pain that Shane was feeling.

He told us: “It was a difficult time for him and you never know what it is like until you are in that situation.

“Whatever way your father dies, be it a prolonged illness or something more sudden, nothing is easy.

“Kian [Egan] and i have had that conversation many times because his dad was sick to the guts for a year while my dad dropped dead, went to work one morning and never came back.

“In a way, it seemed like my father was asleep in the coffin, but Kian’s father had been in treatment for quite some time. But in another respect, Kian got to say goodbye and I didn’t.”

Nicky continued, “There is no easy way when it comes to death. Shane looked at us a bit, but he has a great family and it was a desperate time for them.”

“They are a strong family and they are doing well.”

Our thoughts are with Shane and his family at this difficult time.
