Met Éireann said it will get cloudier from the south tonight with persistent rain hitting the southwestern counties in the late afternoon. Wet and windy weather in the Southwest will sweep across the country tonight, cleaning up any patches of early frost in Ulster before midnight.

Very strong southeast winds to hurricanes and some severe gusts are expected in Munster and Leinster, with risk of coastal flooding.

Low temperatures will be between two and five degrees tonight.

Wednesday will see a very windy start with some severe gusts and a continued risk of coastal flooding.

There will be outbreaks of rain clearing northward in the morning to leave behind a day of sparkling spells and stormy rains.

Highs of 7-10 degrees are expected Wednesday with strong and gusty southwest winds.

There is also an orange marine advisory in effect from 11am Tuesday with southeastern winds increasing by gale force tonight in Irish coastal waters from Malin Head to Carnsore Point to Mizen Head and into the Irish Sea.

Cyclonic gales will spread for a time in coastal waters from Mizen Head to Slyne Head and Malin Head on Wednesday morning.

Southeasterly winds turning southwest will reach Storm Force 10 for a time tonight and Wednesday morning in Irish coastal waters from Carnsore Point to Roche’s Point and Mizen Head.
