‘We hang on’ – Rowe, pleased to improve voice-overs

The bad news for Cork or Galway is that the four in a row chasing Dublin, by their own admission, are only played in patches.

Mick Bohan’s team overcame a tough challenge from Armagh in today’s Irish semi-final, where Carla Rowe was instrumental to their five-point margin of victory.

Orchard County trailed 2-02-0-01 after just eight minutes, but recovered until halftime with the sides tied at 2-06 apiece.

However, the Dubs found the net for the third time through Rowe, who finished 2-04 on the night, to advance to a seventh straight All-Ireland decider.

Speaking to RTÉ Sport, the forward admitted that he was nervous at times against his Ulster opponents.

“Armagh is a very dangerous side,” he said. “We knew that if we took our foot off the pedal they were going to score goals.

“We held on and saw it. Fortunately in the second half we went with energy to watch the game.”

Rowe said Dublin’s patience in playing wide to counter Armagh’s deep numbers was key to the result and, ominously, he says they are on an upward curve before the end of next month.

“We’ve been training well and he’s been bubbling really well. We’ve been hoping that performance would fit, and today it fit in places.

“There are still areas for improvement, but we are more pleased with that performance.”
