Oliver Plunkett Street is currently closed to traffic this Tuesday afternoon after part of a building fell onto the street.
A small section of the building on the corner, facing the back of Penneys, is reported to have fallen onto the street around 12:20.
Members of the Cork City Fire Brigade are currently assisting the site, making the building safe while the road is closed to traffic and pedestrians.
While no injuries have been reported, this is one of several recent such incidents in the city center in recent months.
In October, emergency services dealt with a ‘potentially dangerous building’ on South Main St.
The tall green building is right next to Speedo’s 2.0 and the former Step Aside Barbers was inspected with a large platform and the street was opened shortly after.
In August, a small section of North Main Street had to be cordoned off after pieces of wood fell from the building in the latter part of this morning.
Fortunately, no one was injured and Cork City firefighters reached the scene quickly.
Just the previous month, the Christian Bookstore on Tuckey St leaned outward, prompting emergency services to close it down and engineers to put up a structure to keep it stable.
In May, two people were slightly injured after parts of the facade above Dealz in Daunt Sq fell as people queued to enter.
Two people were struck by the piece and were treated by a doctor at the scene before receiving the green light.
Both incidents came just months after another collapse on Washington St, while a young woman was injured a year ago after being struck by the masonry of a building on Patrick’s St.
