Concerns have been raised in the North Dublin city of Skerries after a video of young girls speculating which friend “will test positive” for Covid-19 went viral.

It is not known if the young women are joking, but they claim that “all the girls have just had the crown test” in the TikTok video that circulated Monday night.

The National Public Health Emergency Team (NPHET) has learned of the situation, calling it “disappointing.”

Local Green Party councilor Karen Power told BreakingNews.ie that the HSE had been contacted to confirm the official number of confirmed cases in the city “to try to alleviate any fears people may have.”

Ms Power added: “We are very aware that there is also a lot of false information circulating on social media and that has created a bit of a panic.

“I would be concerned that any kind of defamation of the people who participated in the social media video could discourage people from going and getting tested if they show symptoms because they don’t want to be treated similarly.”

“I will say that the video was extremely poor judgment on the part of the girls involved. I understand that it was not intended to be shared publicly, but unfortunately things on social media can take on a life of their own.

“We are just trying to establish the hard facts and figures from the HSE and remind people that the most important thing is to get their information from factual sources and not to panic over videos like this that can spread like wildfire,” he said.

Ms Power later added that those involved have been in quarantine: “I think it’s really important to see that they have been self-isolating since they got the test results or there was a confirmed case among the group, they have been following the proper rules and procedures and they were alone when they made their little videos. “

Clubs closed

Two local sports clubs have suspended their activities after locals raised concerns about the video.

Skerries Harps GAA Club said it learned of several potential close contacts to a confirmed case over the weekend and has made the decision to await test results.

While Skerries Town FC says that postponing all club activities is a precautionary measure and that there are no suspected cases at the club.

Skerries Harps said: “On Monday, August 31, the club executive met virtually and made the decision to close all sections of the club pending the results of the Covid-19 test in the city.

“While this is a difficult decision, we believe it benefits our players, our members, and the Skerries community as a whole. Furthermore, Skerries Harps is aware of a social media video that went viral on Sunday. the night The club does it I do not endorse the content of this video.

“The club has followed all of the HSE, Government and GAA guidelines in recent days and will continue to do so in the future.”

In response to the video, NPHET member Dr. Cillian De Gascun has said that everyone should take the virus seriously.

“If we don’t implement the public health measures that everyone is familiar with now, then if the virus has a chance, it can spread very quickly.

“Obviously, we have seen it with large outbreaks in recent weeks and the large number of outbreaks in the home, so [the video] it’s disappointing behavior. “
