Two government ministers have met with Eir and Vodafone, separately, to voice their concerns about current issues with the customer service they provide.

The Tánaiste and the Minister of Business, Trade and Employment, Leo Varadkar, and the Minister of Communications, Eamon Ryan, held their meetings this morning.

Eir, in particular, has been the source of constant complaints with consumers, with some reporting that they had to wait periods of more than an hour to speak with customer service personnel.

Others have reported unanswered calls and emails regarding customer service inquiries.

The company is committed to addressing the problem.

Varadkar said today that the problems are so serious that they are “causing great frustration in people.”

He described the meeting with the Eir representatives as helpful.

“It was good to hear from the companies first-hand. Both companies set their plans to solve the problems that cause problems, so I really hope things will improve for customers soon,” he added.

Minister Ryan said he expected consumers to see improvements in services from Vodafone and Eir in the near future.

“It was important to convey the level of dissatisfaction experienced by people who are doing their best to work from home,” Ryan said.

“The two companies described the solutions they are working on and we should see improvements in the near future. While we are implementing the National Broadband Plan, we also need the existing services to offer a high level of service,” he added.

Eir CEO Carolan Lennon and other representatives are due to appear before the Oireachtas Transportation and Communications Committee next Wednesday.
