Gardaí in Cork launched an investigation after vandals unearthed sections of pavement in the city center and then filled the holes with cut flowers and leaves.

Cork City Council staff discovered that large sections of concrete pavement in the downtown trails had been excavated over the holiday weekend.

Vandalism occurred at four different locations in the city center, including the Patrick Street side avenues.

The pieces of concrete paving slabs and bricks that had been excavated were carefully stacked on the road.

The exposed sections of the trail were carefully filled with cut flowers or green branches.

The local authority has launched an investigation into the incident and Gardaí will examine CCTV footage of local stores in an attempt to locate the culprits.

Gardaí and city council officials are puzzled as to why the Vandals would carefully stack the slabs and bricks removed next to the area that had just been unearthed.

Anyone with information about vandalism should contact their local Garda station.
