THE PRESIDENT OF THE United States has said that he tested positive for Covid-19.

Around 6 a.m. Irish time, Donald Trump tweeted that he and his wife Melania had tested positive for the virus.

Said, “Tonight, [Melania] and I tested positive for COVID-19. We will begin our quarantine and recovery process immediately. We will get out of this TOGETHER! “

Trump had previously tweeted that Hope Hicks, a close associate, had tested positive and that he and his wife were awaiting test results.

Hicks is the closest aide to Trump to test positive so far.

He traveled with the president several times this week, including aboard Marine One, the presidential helicopter, for a rally in Minnesota on Wednesday, and aboard Air Force One for Tuesday night’s first presidential debate against Joe Biden.

White House physician Sean Conley said in a letter that the president and the first lady “are doing well at the moment and plan to stay home inside the White House during their convalescence.”

Conley added: “The White House medical team and I will keep a vigilant watch and I appreciate the support provided by some of the best medical professionals and institutions in our country. Please be assured that I hope the President will continue to serve without interruption while she recovers. “

The president will debate Biden two more times before the November 3 election.

The virus has killed more than 200,000 Americans and infected more than seven million across the country.
