The US Capitol was closed on Wednesday when crowds protesting President-elect Joe Biden’s victory broke through security barricades as Congress debated certifying its electoral victory over President Donald Trump.

The Senate and House, which were weighing objections to Biden’s victory, abruptly and unexpectedly withdrew.

Hundreds of pro-Trump protesters breached security on Capitol Hill in Washington DC when the United States Senate heard objections to President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.

A woman was shot by law enforcement during the rape of the Capitol building and her status is still unknown. There have been multiple injuries to law enforcement officers and President Trump has deployed National Guard officers from Virginia and Washington DC to the Capitol to break up the resulting standoff.

In a second tweet, President Trump said: “I ask everyone in the United States Capitol to remain in peace. No violence! Remember, WE are the Law and Order Party: respect the Law and our great men and women from Azul. Thank you! “

Vice President Mike Pence was expelled from the Senate when hundreds of protesters breached the security perimeter and with loud explosions and grenade blasts were seen exploding as the crowd leaked into the Capitol building.

Images of an armed confrontation have surfaced online as security officers blocked the door to the Chamber floor and drew weapons and pointed at the door as protesters stormed the building.

The police in charge of securing the US congressional buildings have called for additional support to address the breach, CNN reported.

President Trump did not urge his supporters to stand down, but in a tweet after they broke into the Capitol building, President Donald Trump said in a tweet: “Please support the police and law enforcement of the Capitol. They really are on the side of our country. Stay in peace! “

An announcement was aired inside the Capitol as politicians gathered and were expected to vote to affirm Joe Biden’s victory.

Due to an “external security threat,” no one was allowed to enter or leave the Capitol complex, according to the recording.

Many House representatives have been evacuated and a House member, Gerry Connolly, told CNN that all representatives received gas masks upon their evacuation.

Members of Congress who cannot be evacuated are told to shelter in place.
