Urgent Warning About Dangerous Infectious Spiders Biting Irish People While They Sleep

Scientists have issued a warning about spiders infecting people in Ireland with antibiotic resistant bacteria.

NUI Galway’s Dr. Michel Dugon explained that these “very common” spiders inject the bacteria with their fangs.

He told Morning Ireland on RTE Radio One: “We are talking about some of the common spiders that you can find in your home, like the giant spider, but also the noble false widow that has made headlines for the past few years.

“They are very, very common. They are essentially the spiders that you are most likely to find in your home, at least on the East Coast.

“We discovered that two spiders carry pathogenic bacteria on their fangs and can inject those bacteria when they bite.

“There have been more and more reports of bites that have come to us in the last four or five years, some victims were complaining of deep infections and it is something we wanted to investigate.

“We found that the bacteria are carried by the spider and injected by the spider.

“This is the most important of the discoveries, we have seen that some of the bacteria, we find 22 different species of bacteria in the fangs of spiders, and some of them are resistant to all the usual antibiotics.”

And Dr. Dugon revealed that dangerous spiders can often be found in your bedroom, and even on your bed.

He added: “I don’t want to scare you too much, but most of the people who have reported bites have been bitten in their beds while sleeping, turning and crushing the spider, the spider defending itself and biting, or when dressing in the morning. Then a spider finds its way into your pants that you left at the foot of the bed the night before, when you put your pants on it will bite you. “
