A yellow wind advisory was issued for 17 counties, while Cork will be placed under an orange wind alert.
The country is expected to be hit by storms tonight as Met Éireann has issued an orange warning for Cork from 9pm tonight until 9am tomorrow.
All of Leinster, Clare, Kerry, Limerick, Tipperary and Waterford have received a yellow weather warning from 9pm tonight until 9am tomorrow.
In Cork, a forecaster from Met Éireann said: “Due to the high seas and strong winds on land, there is a risk of coastal flooding tonight (Tuesday night) and Wednesday. Southeastern gale-force winds, turning southwest with gusts of 90 to 110 km / h in general, higher in exposed areas. “
On the other 17 counties under a yellow warning, the forecaster said: “It will be very windy tonight (Tuesday night) and Wednesday morning. Strong and gusty winds from the southeast, veering southwest with gusts of up to 100 km / h. Due to the high seas and strong winds on land, there is a high risk of coastal flooding. “
On the humid and windy weather today and tomorrow, meteorologist Linda Hughes and hydrometerorologist said the country should expect “very unstable conditions.”
They said: “Very unstable conditions are forecast for Ireland from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning, with heavy rains leading to the risk of flooding and the possibility of very strong winds and damaging gusts.
“We are in a period of spring (high) tides. The combination of spring (high) tides and very unstable, potentially stormy conditions, associated with a depression on Tuesday / Wednesday, is likely to increase the risk of coastal flooding (and localized surge of waves ), especially in flood-prone areas along all Irish coasts (particularly when they coincide with high tides and onshore winds). “
