Gardaí is asking the public for information related to the inexplicable death of a 48-year-old man who was discovered in the hallway of his apartment complex in January.
John Hannigan was found at approximately 6pm in the hallway of his apartment complex on Grosvenor Road, Rathmines, Dublin 6 on January 3 of this year.
Hannigan was taken by ambulance to St James Hospital, where he passed away several weeks later, on February 20.
After his death, an autopsy was completed, the results of which, according to Gardaí, “are not being released for operational reasons.”
Gardaí has been unable to determine the sole cause of Mr. Hannigan’s death due to natural or accidental circumstances, and is continuing to investigate.
Movements
Gardaí has established that Mr. Hannigan traveled to Balally, Sandyford, Dublin 18 on January 3 at 1:30 pm, where he briefly met a family member.
Gardaí has been unable to identify witnesses who can provide an account of his movements between the time he left this area until he was discovered in his apartment complex that same day at 6:00 p.m.
Gardaí is appealing to anyone with information that has not yet come forward to do so.
They are particularly interested in speaking to anyone who may have information about Mr. Hannigan’s movements during the New Years period on the day of his death.

The original version of this article stated that Mr. Hannigan was found in his apartment complex on February 20, 2020 and Gardaí was unable to account for his movements for almost two months after visiting a relative on January 3, as stated for the first time by An Garda Síochána. .
Gardaí has since changed the dates of the incident, stating that Mr. Hannigan was found at his apartment complex on January 3 and spent the next two months in hospital before dying there on February 20.
