Una Healy has shared heartbreaking details of her life after the divorce, describing how her children helped cheer her up when she found herself feeling bad about the collapse of her marriage to sports star Ben Foden.
The 38-year-old chart star was married to 35-year-old rugby ace Ben between 2012 and 2018, and their relationship spanned 10 years in total.
The marriage collapsed amid rumors that Ben had been unfaithful, and the jock later confirmed that this was the case.
The couple have two children together: their eight-year-old daughter Aoife and five-year-old son Tadhg.
Ben quickly switched from Una to announce his engagement to American socialite Jackie Belanoff-Smith, whom he proposed to after two weeks of dating, married in 2019 and welcomed a daughter in May of this year.
Speaking to The Sun’s Fabulous magazine, Una spoke about the impact the collapse of her marriage had on her.
She explained that some days she would be surprised by her own resilience, but other days she would be overwhelmed with emotion and says she is grateful to have her two children, who helped her through her lowest moments.
She said: “When you are in hell, you cannot help it, you have to go through it. It is the only way.
“For the sake of the children I had to stay strong. They’ve obviously seen me upset, and there have been times where I just started crying, but they both come up and hug me or write little notes saying ‘I love you’ and I knew I had to pull myself out of it.
“Everything is for them. They are the most important thing in my life and I have to guide them now ”.
Reflecting on her ex-husband’s remarriage, the All Fired Up singer says her new relationship touched her.
Admitting that he never imagined divorce when he walked down the aisle in 2012, he said: “And when it doesn’t work, it’s devastating. Totally devastating.
“So that was quite difficult, but last summer when he got married again it was a huge shock to me. I was like, ‘Woah, what is this?’
“It was something else I had to understand. But life goes on, doesn’t it?
One went on to reveal that she hopes to start dating again following the end of her relationship with sports star David Breen, 34, earlier this year.
While the singer is also focusing on her career, with plans to continue releasing new music, including her latest single, Until You, until the coronavirus pandemic is over and she can re-plan a canceled tour.
