University College Cork (UCC) has confirmed that 11 students have been temporarily suspended due to violations of student rules related to public health.
Temporary suspensions have been implemented pending the outcome of a hearing, per Student Rules.
In a statement, the UCC says that the vast majority of students have adhered to the national public health guidance.
“However, UCC can confirm that Campus Watch has received some complaints regarding alleged violations of the Student Rules. Each case is considered on its merits and the principle of natural justice is applied.
Hearings for those complaints not yet resolved by Campus Watch through the informal procedures of the UCC Student Rules have not yet been held and therefore the UCC is not in a position to comment further on these ongoing cases. .
UCC can confirm that in 11 cases a temporary suspension has been established pending the outcome of a hearing, per the Student Rules. These have been carried out without prejudice to the hearing process.
At this time, there are over 50 support services to support students and UCC will continue to work together with its students, its community and local authorities at a challenging time for our society.
UCC Campus Watch receives complaints regarding alleged violations of the Student Rules.
The Campus Watch President, UCC Director of Student Experience, considers whether the complaint should be handled by the Campus Watch Committee or the Student Disciple Panel.
The Campus Vigilance Committee, comprised of UCC staff and members of the Student Union, primarily hears less serious complaints of alleged violations of these Rules and will encourage informal resolution and mediation when appropriate.
If a student has violated the college student rules, the student may have an option, in the first instance only, of an informal resolution.
Your options may include completing the Bystander Intervention In-House Education Program and the Alcohol Education Program, or completing just one of these two programs and paying a € 25 charitable contribution instead.
Any student who chooses not to do any of these can pay a charitable contribution of € 75.
UCC says the Campus Vigilance and Student Discipline committees meet every day at this time.
“If a complaint goes to hearing and is found to be upheld, the Discipline Committee may impose sanctions as established by student rules. These options include fines, suspension, removal from the library and / or computer facilities, prohibition of access to campus for a specified period or, in cases of serious breach of the Student Rules, expulsion. Students have the right to appeal the decision of the Disciplinary Panel. “
