Two weeks to get back to normal

Medical Director Dr. Tony Holohan has said that progress in reducing the incidence of Covid-19 has stalled and we have two weeks to get back to normal.

He has asked people to redouble their efforts to reduce the disease; by limiting daily contacts, working from home and staying at home so that the virus reproduction number is less than 0.5 by December 1.

One day after employer group Ibec complained to the Government that the National Public Health Emergency Team is a source of uncertainty and irritation, and called for an early departure from Level 5 restrictions, NPHET again focused on the employers.

Dr. Holohan has said that the message of working from home is not really getting across.

It’s clear from the level of traffic on the roads and the fact that many parking lots at workplaces are full, he said, adding that this results in unnecessary social contacts.

NPHET has said that a marginal increase in social contacts in recent weeks is why the progress the country was making in addressing Covid-19 has now stalled.

He emphasized that employers have a particular responsibility to encourage and facilitate employees to work from home during the remaining two weeks of restrictions.

Dr. Holohan has said that there is still enough time to reduce the case numbers, but that it will take a collective effort to do so.
