A second case of Covid-19 has been confirmed in a Cork school in 24 hours.

Confirmation of the latest case at Colaiste Choilm in Ballincollig came yesterday when another Covid-19 case was reported at a nearby elementary school.

Parents of children attending Gaelscoil Uí Riordáin were informed yesterday afternoon that the HSE also learned of a confirmed case of the virus at their school.

It is not clear if there is a connection between the different cases in the city.

It has not been said whether the cases involve students or staff members.

But in all cases, public health experts said no children have been identified as close contacts of the confirmed cases.

School officials said they are working with the HSE and following the guidance of public health experts.

The Department of Public Health at HSE South said it is closely monitoring the school situation.

“If your child exhibits any symptoms that suggest a Covid-19 infection (such as cough, fever, loss, or change in sense of taste or smell), please do not send your child to school. Contact your GP and start restricting your child’s movements, ”he told parents.

He said that means avoiding contact with other people and social situations as much as possible, including:

  • keep your child at home;
  • not allowing them to use public transport;
  • not having visitors in your home;
  • do not go to the shops or the pharmacy, unless absolutely necessary;
  • and stay away from the elderly, anyone with an underlying medical condition, and pregnant women.

Previously, the city’s GAA club temporarily suspended all activities after a club member tested positive for Covid-19.

In a statement, the club said it will update its members on any news during the next 24 hours.

He advised people to follow public health guidelines at all times and to respect the confidentiality of everyone involved.
