Two schools in Kerry sent groups of students home after students tested positive for Covid-19.
The two schools, a primary and a secondary, are in the same area.
The high school sent the students home in a group of a year after discovering the positive case this morning, before contacting the HSE for advice.
Only one high school student tested positive for the virus.
According to Radio Kerry, the elementary school in question sent home two classes after a student also tested positive for the virus.
The primary school was contacted, but declined to comment on the situation.
This is the third day since schools reopened last week that a group of students have been sent home due to a confirmed case.
Yesterday, a school in Co Clare contacted students to inform them that the school in the south of the country would be forced to close after several staff members were identified as close contacts of a confirmed case.
Earlier in the week, two Dublin primary schools sent several students home after a child tested positive for the virus at each school.
This comes after previous comments from HSE that they are very pleased with the way schools have responded to recent Covid-19 cases.
More than a million students returned to school in the past week despite concerns from teachers, unions and parents.
HSE CEO Paul Reid says every situation has been handled well.
“We have already experienced a number of confirmed cases in schools this week and I am pleased with the nature of the response.
“I would like to congratulate the principals and our public health teams, who are really acting very fast and diligently, working with the schools.
“When a case is identified in a school, public health teams immediately contact the school,” Mr. Reid said.
