Two deaths and 299 new confirmed cases in Ireland

PUBLIC HEALTH OFFICIALS have confirmed 299 new cases of Covid-19 in Ireland this afternoon.

The cases reported today bring the total number of cases in Ireland to 72,241.

Additionally, the Department of Health has reported that two more people have died with Covid-19, bringing the total number of deaths from Covid-19 to 2,052.

The 14-day national incidence rate per 100,000 is now 92.3.

The 14-day incidence rate is highest in Donegal at 219.9 per 100,000 and lowest in Leitrim at 21.8 per 100,000.

Of the cases reported today, 67% correspond to people under 45 years of age, 158 in men and 141 in women.

The average age of people with a positive case reported in today’s figures is 34.

94 of the cases are in Dublin, 41 in Donegal, 27 in Wicklow, 14 in Louth, 13 in Limerick and the remaining 110 cases are spread over 20 other counties.

As of 2:00 p.m. today, 257 Covid-19 patients are hospitalized, including 30 patients in the ICU.

There have been seven additional hospitalizations of people with Covid-19 in the last 24 hours.

Earlier today, Health Minister Stephen Donnelly said that a Covid-19 vaccine should be available “pretty soon,” but not until the new year.

Two of the vaccines Ireland has signed up for, those from Pfizer-BioNTech and AstroZeneca, are seeking marketing authorization in the coming weeks.

Yesterday, there were seven deaths and 243 new confirmed Coid-19 cases in Ireland.

As Ireland moves from level five to a modified level three, a number of restrictions and guidance are put in place in an attempt to limit the spread of the virus in the coming weeks.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin confirmed Friday night that shops, restaurants, gyms and some pubs will be able to reopen next week, and limited home visits will be allowed at Christmas.

Starting on Tuesday, December 1, shops, hair salons, gyms, libraries, galleries, cinemas, tennis courts and golf courses will be reopened and religious services will be allowed to resume, but theaters will remain closed.

Restaurants and pubs with on-site kitchens will be able to reopen from Friday, December 4, and hotels will be able to open for diners indoors.

Two households will be allowed to visit a third starting Friday, December 18, and cross-country travel will be allowed during the Christmas period from the same date through January 6.
