Two men have been arrested in connection with alleged dangerous driving after an alleged grumpy race in Limerick earlier today.
The incident occurred on the N24 Tipperary road shortly before 8 a.m. when Gardaí on patrol noticed a group of vehicles involved in what was believed to be a sulky race.
When the Gardaí approached the vehicles, two of them sped away.
Gardaí said both cars crossed the town of Caherconlish at high speed, as Gardaí continued to follow them “from a safe distance”.
These vehicles were located in Caherconlish shortly thereafter and two men, both in their 30s, were arrested.
They were taken to the Roxboro Rd Garda Station, where they are currently detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Meanwhile, other Garda units from Garda Station on Roxoboro Rd spoke with people who had remained on Tipperary Road and Garda investigations into the incident are ongoing.
Superintendent Dermot O Connor said the Gardaí in Limerick City have been particularly vigilant regarding horses that are not being kept under proper control or where they are being neglected or abused.
“Moody racing on a public road is illegal and dangerous for all road users and can put horses under tremendous stress,” he said.
“Gardaí will investigate all incidents of danger, illegal races in a bad mood and where animals are being abused.”
