Two arrested after seizure of drugs worth 100,000 euros in East Cork

Two men were arrested after Gardai seized € 100,000 worth of drugs and € 30,000 in cash after witnessing two men carry out an alleged deal in East Cork.

Gardai made the huge bust at a house in Castlemartyr yesterday as part of an ongoing operation in the area.

After seeing the alleged deal, they conducted a search for a car and house in Elm Grove before having the monster find it.

The cannabis has been sent to be tested while the two men, both in their 30s, are detained at the Midleton Garda station.

A spokesperson said: “Gardaí has ​​seized 100,000 euros of suspected cannabis herb and cash in Castlemartyr, Co. Cork on October 27, 2020.

“As part of an ongoing operation targeting the sale and supply of drugs in Cork, Gardaí, attached to the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit, witnessed what is believed to be a drug transaction in front of a house in Elm Grove in Castlemartyr.

“Gardaí carried out a search of a car and house that resulted in the seizure of 100,000 euros of suspected cannabis herb and approximately 30,000 euros in cash. The suspected drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

“Two men, both in their 30s, were arrested at the scene and taken to Midleton Garda Station, where they are being held under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Speaking today, Superintendent Michael Comyns said: “While the Gardaí continues to monitor the level 5 restrictions regarding COVID-19, it is important to assure the public that the Gardaí is still active in serious crime investigation.”
