The United States Supreme Court has ended lawsuits over whether Donald Trump illegally profited from his presidency.
The justices rejected Trump’s challenge to the lower court rulings that had allowed the lawsuits to move forward on the grounds that he violated the emoluments clause of the U.S. Constitution by accepting payments from foreign and domestic officials staying at the Trump International Hotel and sponsor other companies owned by the former. president and his family.
The higher court also ordered the lower court’s rulings vacated and ordered the appeals courts in New York and Richmond, Virginia, to dismiss the claims as moot now that Trump is no longer in office.

The result leaves no judicial opinions on the books in an area of the law that has rarely been explored in American history.
The cases involved lawsuits brought by Maryland and the District of Columbia, and high-end restaurants and hotels in New York and Washington, DC, which “found themselves in the unenviable position of having to compete with companies owned by the President of the United States. . ”.
The lawsuits seek financial records that show how much state and foreign governments have paid the Trump Organization to stay and eat at Trump-owned properties.
