Richard Woods was jailed last week for four years

An Irish man jailed by a Belgian court last week after a human trafficking investigation is reported to be a Louth County truck driver.

According to the Sunday World, Richard Woods of Cortial, 32, Kilkerley was arrested in October after 17 Albanians were found hiding in the back of a truck at a port in Zeebrugge.

Although he was released without charge due to insufficient evidence, his phone was subsequently tapped and he was arrested in France in January on the foot of a European arrest warrant.

The truck driver is said to have been jailed for four years and fined € 136,000.
