With all the buzz that has been surrounding Troy Parrott for the past few years, it’s often easy to remember that the Dubliner only turned 18 in March of this year.
He has only one Premier League appearance under his belt, coming off the bench at the end of Spurs’ win over Burnley last December. While he has already made his senior international debut, it’s fair to say that many Irish fans have yet to see the striker well.
That is set to change in the coming months, with Parrott on loan to Millwall for the 2020/21 season. It’s the second season in a row that a promising young Irishman has moved into The Den after Jayson Molumby played there for the past 12 months.
Parrott is expected to be a major contributor to Millwall this season despite his young age, a challenge he certainly enjoys.
A host of clubs were interested in borrowing it over the summer, but the player himself eventually felt that Millwall was the best option.
Speaking to News At Den, he said it was the good feeling he got from manager Gary Rowett that made the decision.
I felt like I could trust him from the beginning. I had a good feeling. I liked the way he explained how the club worked, how they are all together and how the team plays.
In a way I bought it and convinced it right away. This is really why I made the decision to come to Millwall.
I talked to Gary probably twice before he remembered anything and I had a feeling it was the right place to go.
Obviously I talked to Jayson Molumby a lot about the club, he said only good things to me.
The main thing that stands out to me is the type of people in the club, the squad and the players. Little things like making it easier for me to adjust and making me feel welcome was one of the most important things …
I watched last season and saw how well they did. I don’t see why we can’t go further this season and get into those play-off positions.

Parrott was also asked about his relationship with Spurs manager Jose Mourinho, who said last season that the forward had a long way to go before he became a regular first-team player at the club.
The Irishman said that those were comments that he took for constructive and that he has learned a lot from the Portuguese coach.
To be fair, he is a very experienced coach and has done pretty much everything in the game so if he feels like that’s right then there must be some truth to it and I had to take it on the chin.
He knew he had to keep his head down in training and keep working hard. And hopefully getting this loan now will help me get better and move on.
There were little conversations that were being had [at Spurs]. He was talking to the coaching staff and the players to find out what he had to do to be better. Because obviously Mourinho has worked with some of the best forwards there has been. Getting some advice from him was great.
I knew what I had to do. It was helpful advice.
Before lining up for Millwall in the Championship, Parrott will hope to make his competitive debut for the Republic of Ireland over the next week.
The 18-year-old has been inducted into Stephen Kenny’s squad for UEFA Nations League matches against Bulgaria and Finland and is likely to appear at some point.
