Tributes were paid to a Belfast father of three who died in a tragedy on a Donegal beach.

Michael Willis passed away after an accident on Maghera Beach near Ardara on Saturday.

Willis was the son of former Sinn Fein councilor Veronica and was also a well-known footballer for Colin Valley FC, Belfast Live reports.

The club was one of the first to pay tribute, writing on Facebook: “Micky joined the Club a few years ago to help with the Senior Setup, but very, very quickly, I felt like Micky had always been in our club and we couldn’t I imagine him now in something other than Blue of Colin Valley FC.

“Micky has a long history of involvement in local soccer within the Poleglass and the wider Colin area, with clubs like Colin Bhoys in their recent past. It was this long history within the area that caught our attention and was the reason we sought Micky’s help when he was available: he gave the club everything he had in recent years and we are all very grateful for everything he did. . for us.

“Micky’s history of supporting and organizing soccer within our area cannot and should not be underestimated or underestimated in a broader sense. It is people like Micky who support our community in addressing mental health and other issues and we want to honor him in the best way possible. We’ll post more information on that as it comes out this week, we know all of his senior players are desperate to give him a proper ejection, bear with us.

“Individually, Paddy Fay and Martin Fennell have lost their legs in the pitch and will feel the loss of Micky like a hammer. John Benson and Paul Doherty (Doc) are two other Club members with whom Micky was especially attached and will need our full support in the days to come.

“But, of course, Micky’s family will suffer the most and the most on our minds and in our prayers. Chrissy. Michael. Síoniann. Shenna. All our love and prayers for you. “

While another local team, Celtic Boys FC, was also close to the family, sending his condolences to his grieving wife and children.

They added: “We are very sorry for their loss and will do everything we can to support them both during this sad time. We would also like to send our condolences to Micky’s family and friends and our neighbors Colinvalley FC, where Micky was a member.”

And Michael’s family has confirmed that his funeral arrangements will be announced at a later date.

A death notice reads: “Chrissy’s loving husband, Michael’s devoted father, Sionainn and Shénna, and Michael and Veronica’s loving son.
