Tributes have been coming to a father and son who died after a fishing tragedy.
Tom and Martin Oliver of The Claddagh in Galway City passed away after Monday’s incident.
And members of the Galway RNLI lifeboat station were among the first to express their condolences.
They wrote on Facebook: “We are deeply, deeply saddened by the news of the passing of Martin and Tom Oliver.
“Our team and the entire team extend our deepest condolences to the Oliver family, especially our team members and many friends. May Martin and Tom rest in peace.
“Fair Winds and Back Seas.
“LOM, Crew and Equipment, RNLI, Galway Lifeboat Station”.
While Glaway City Mayor Mike Cubbard added: “A dark cloud hangs over the city tonight as the sudden departure of two of life’s knights has left a void in the lives of so many.
“We will deeply miss Martin and Tom Oliver. A few weeks ago I held a reception as mayor where I recognized the heroism of all those who jump into the sea in a time of need, Martin and Tom were two of those people.
“The Claddagh community, but the much broader scope of the Oliver and Griffin families, is in deep mourning tonight. My condolences, thoughts and prayers go out to the families of both men, their neighbors and friends as They are trying to come to accept this tragic loss. “
While Tom and Martin’s family have confirmed that the details of his funeral will be released in the coming days.
A post on RIP.ie says: “Father and son, Martin and Tom Oliver passed away suddenly after a fishing accident and are deeply grieving for their heartbroken friends and family.
“Arrangements for the funeral later. Private home.”
