A man who was found dead in Dublin this morning was homeless, it has been revealed.
Gardai launched a murder investigation after the man’s body was found in an alley off Madison Road in Kilmainham.
The man, who was in his 40s, was reportedly attacked and had his phone stolen around 1.30am this morning.
He suffered serious injuries and died at the scene, reports RTE.
Gardai has closed the area for a technical examination and the state pathologist has been notified.
The man’s body is still on the scene today.
Several teens were in the area at the time and a 16-year-old boy was arrested near the scene.
He is being interrogated at the Kevin Street Garda station in the south city center.
The child is detained under article 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which means that he can be detained for up to 24 hours.
An incident room was set up on Kevin Street and a senior investigating officer appointed.
Gardai is following a defined line of investigation.
A Garda spokeswoman said: “Gardaí is investigating the circumstances surrounding the discovery of a man’s body (details currently unknown) on a Madison Road street in Kilmainham, Dublin 8 in the early hours of this morning.
“Gardaí was alerted to the incident at approximately 1.30 am. The man’s body remains at the scene.

“A young male has been arrested in connection with this incident and is currently being detained at Kevin Street Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
“Gardaí on Kevin Street is calling on anyone who may have information in relation to this matter to come forward and assist them with the investigation.
“Anyone who has been in the Madison Lane area between 11 PM and 2 AM should contact the Kevin Street Garda station at 01 666 9400 or the confidential Garda line at 1800 666 111.”
