A child who tragically died after being hit by a truck will be buried Friday.
Jimmy Horgan, 13, was sadly pronounced dead after being beaten while crossing the street on Sheares Street in Cork City, near Mercy Hospital, on Tuesday.
The principal of his school today paid him a moving tribute, saying that he was “loved” by everyone present and that they are “deeply saddened” by what happened, reports Cork Beo.
David Barry of Presentation Brothers College on Mardyke Street also said they are offering support to students who are distressed by the news.
In a statement today they said: “We learned last night of the death of one of our students, Jimmy Horgan who was in freshman year.
“During his time with us, he was loved by both his classmates and the staff. We will all miss him very much. This is a terrible tragedy for the family, our school and our community.
“We are deeply saddened by these events. Our condolences and thoughts go out to Jimmy’s family and friends.
“We have been in contact with her parents and we all understand their need for privacy at this difficult time. Offers of support have been coming in and are greatly appreciated.
“Our school has implemented the Critical Incident Management Plan. Psychologists from the National Educational Psychology Service (NEPS) have been supporting and mentoring teachers in their efforts to help our students at this time.
“Teachers have been helping students deal with this tragic event. The school is supporting parents and offering advice and guidance. We ask that you respect our privacy at this time.”
Jimmy, who had four siblings, will have his funeral broadcast live from St Josephs SMA Church in Blackrock as Covid restrictions mean not many people can attend in person.
