One of the busiest downtown streets in the heart of Temple Bar came to a standstill today.
Parliament Street was closed to traffic this afternoon when a fire broke out in one of the buildings.
The incident unfolded around 4.30 pm when a fire broke out in an extraction system in one of the restaurants.
As a result, the smoke traveled to the apartments above and the building had to be evacuated.
The Dublin Fire Brigade was called in, and four engines, a revolving ladder and two officers responded.
Gardai was also called to the scene to close the road.
The Dublin Fire Brigade said: “This afternoon, firefighters fought a fire in the exhaust system of a restaurant on Parliament Street. The residential building above was filled with smoke and an evacuation had started before our arrival. Street was closed for a while. There were no injuries there. “
A Dublin City Council spokesperson told Dublin Live: “At 4:23 PM, the Dublin Fire Brigade received a call to 999/112 for a fire in a residential building on Parliament Street. Four fire fighting appliances were dispatched, one revolving ladder , a district officer and a senior officer on the scene.
“An evacuation of the building was underway upon our arrival. Firefighters using breathing apparatus entered the building to extinguish the fire and ventilate the building.
“Firefighters are still on the scene to buffer and locate the source. The fire has caused minimal damage to the building. No injuries have been reported.”
A Garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: “Gardaí assisted the Dublin Fire Brigade in connection with a fire that occurred at a venue on Parliament Street tonight, Monday, August 31, 2020 at approximately 5pm.
“The fire brigade attended to the fire and no one was injured. The road was closed by members of An GS and local detours were placed. The road remains closed at this time, but is due to reopen shortly.”

The incident cleared up and the street reopened to traffic just before 7:30 p.m. tonight.
