Gardaí arrested a third person as part of an anti-corruption investigation involving the Kildare and Wicklow Education and Training Board (ETB).
The investigation into alleged corrupt practices followed serious concerns raised about the tendering and contracting procedures at the state agency.
The arrest of a man in his 40s on Tuesday morning followed previous arrests of a man in his 50s in August and a woman in his 30s in September.
Operation Lakefront, the investigation into the board of education, is being led by the Co Kildare anti-corruption unit of the Garda National Bureau of Economic Crimes.
A Garda spokesman said the man (40 years old) had been arrested Tuesday “as part of an ongoing investigation into alleged corrupt practices in an office of a legal body.”
The man was arrested for crimes contrary to the Laws of Prevention of Corruption. He is currently detained at Naas Garda Station under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
A number of questions about Kildare and Wicklow ETB were raised in a Department of Education investigation and in a highly critical report from the Comptroller and Auditor General (C&AG) last year.
The C&AG audit found that ETB repeatedly violated the rules of public contracts and allowed itself to spend “excessively” on five-star hotels.
The audit conducted by the state spending watchdog found that some providers received contracts from the board of education despite information that cast doubt on their qualifications.
