Thiago Alcantara is already breaking records after his Liverpool debut

Liverpool left Chelsea little doubt about the gap that still exists between the teams during their meeting this afternoon.

The Premier League champions completely outplayed their opponents, apparently playing him at times. The red card given to Andreas Christensen just before halftime had an impact, but Liverpool were already well on top at that stage.

Goals from Sadio Mane ensured victory, even if a missed Jorginho penalty at the end would have given Chelsea a chance to steal a result.

The one who gave up that penalty was Thiago Alcántara, who made his debut at Liverpool after being introduced as a substitute at half-time. Other than that mistake, it was absolutely exemplary.

You could see why Liverpool fans were calling him to come to the club. Thiago demanded the ball from his teammates, choosing fast, incisive passes and continually trying to play the ball forward.

It is already clear that he will take this Liverpool to another level, as this statistic shows.

During the 45 minutes he was on the pitch, Thiago Alcantara played 75 passes. That’s the most passes played by a player who appeared for just 45 minutes in Premier League history.

He also completed more passes than any Chelsea player despite being on the field for only one half.

Thiago is the midfielder that Liverpool longed for. His other options are all excellent players, but they are hard-working players.

The Asturian will offer a more creative presence, capable of taking down the stubborn rival defenses.

Considering it was only 45 minutes into his first game, we can probably expect him to continue to break records in the future.
