The Tipperary community fell into grief after an 11-year-old dies after feeling unwell at school

Tributes have been flowing following the sudden death of a boy who died suddenly at a Tipperary elementary school last Friday.

Cormac O’Brien, 11, of Knockgraffon, Cahir, Co Tipperary, felt suddenly ill at New Inn Boys National School.

Emergency services rushed to the scene shortly after lunchtime after phone calls from the school’s management, however, despite frantic efforts to save the boy, he passed away.

The small, tight-knit community is said to be shocked and paralyzed by the tragic incident.

Cormac is understood to have been a member of the Cashel Rugby Club. In a statement, the Club said: “The return of Cashel RFC minis rugby is postponed until Sunday September 13 after a tragic event.”

His devastated parents Michelle and Donal are being comforted by their other two children, Joey and Daniel, family, and numerous close friends.

The New Inn club, Rockwell Rovers GAA, also posted their condolences online. A minute’s silence was observed at the start of the intermediate soccer semifinal at 1pm on Saturday.

In a Facebook post, Rockwell Rovers GAA said: “Words cannot express the shock and sadness that has passed through our parish when we learn of the untimely passing of young Cormac O’Brien of Knockgraffon.

“Cormac was a popular member of the New Inn Boys’ 5th class. Rockwell Rovers Gaa Club offers its sincerest condolences to his parents Donal and Michelle and his brothers Joey and Daniel and all the Doherty and O’Brien families.

“As a show of respect to the family, all youth games have been canceled and ‘a minute of silence’ will be observed at the Intermediate County Soccer Semifinal in Cahir. We would like to tell all parents, if they or their children need support, the club’s Health and Welfare officers will provide the help and assistance they need.

The child is survived by his heartbroken parents Donal and Michelle, his loving brothers Joey and Daniel along with grandparents Joe and Mary Doherty and Martha and the late Stevie O’Brien.

In their death notice on rip.ie, the family says: “His family, aunts, uncles, cousins ​​and many friends will miss Cormac very much.
