Man Utd turned down a loan approach from a club outside the Premier League for a recent recruit who is rarely seen, a report claims.
Man Utd they are currently challenging on three fronts as they look to crown a resurgent season under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Norwegian has the club fighting for the silver medal in the FA Cup and the Europa League. Also, work still needs to be done to ensure a finish in the top four.
With accessories ready to go thick and fast, the depth of Solskjaer’s equipment is ready to be tested.
One player who has played a minor role in the campaign so far is Donny van De Beek.
The Dutchman came from Ajax for an initial £ 35m in the summer in a deal that was initially greeted with enthusiasm.
Van de Beek has been limited to just 311 minutes of league action, however, with questions about the feasibility of placing him in the same starting XI as Bruno Fernandes at the same time.
But despite his relative lack of playtime, a recent report from the Daily express has revealed that Man Utd blocked an ‘undisclosed offer’ for its services in January.
The outlet (quoting the transfer guru Fabrizio Romano) note that the deal would have seen him go on loan until the end of the season.
Man Utd declined this offer. The report indicates that the presence of the club in three competitions may make it regain prominence.
The midfielder has played a much bigger role in cup competitions this season, starting matches in each of the EFL and FA Cups alongside the Champions League.
Scholes declares why Fernandes is not POTY
Meanwhile, Bruno Fernandes doesn’t deserve to win the PFA Player of the Year award, according to former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes.
Fernandes’ arrival at Old Trafford in January 2020 has been a major factor in his resurgence. The attacking midfielder began running in the Premier League and already has 34 goals and 21 assists to his name in 61 appearances for United.
Thanks in part to Fernandes, United were even in contention for the title until January. However, rivals Man City now seem destined to win the league.
Still, Fernandes has made a big impact this season, with 15 goals and 11 assists in the Premier League so far. Only Mohamed Salah has scored more goals than him to date, while Kevin De Bruyne and Harry Kane are the only Premier League players with more assists this season.
However, the United Scholes legend – who recently criticized Fernandes’ performance in big games like United’s recent draw with Chelsea – has downplayed rumors that the Portugal international should be named Player of the Year.
