A Limerick nursery had to close after several staff members fell ill with vomiting and diarrhea.
Our Lady of Lourdes Childworld Creche on Childer’s Road in Limerick announced on Wednesday that they would have to close for a time after the outbreak.
As a result of the large number of people with the bug, the HSE advised the owners to close until Monday and do a deep cleaning of the premises.
The nursery also assured parents that it was only vomit and not anything related to the coronavirus.
A spokesperson said: “In the last two days we have had a large number of sick staff and children with vomiting and diarrhea.
“Because so many staff are sick with this bug, we have had to close the nursery tonight and tomorrow.
“We understand this can cause inconvenience to our parents, but we had to follow HSE’s advice and shut down. We have to put the safety of your children and our staff first.

“Between now and tomorrow, the nursery will be thoroughly cleaned. We would like to reassure parents in these strange times and just repeat that this is just vomiting and diarrhea. We wish the children and staff a speedy recovery.”
An updated statement later said the daycare would remain closed until Monday instead of Friday.
He added: “We have been advised to close the nursery until Monday. This will give the staff and children time to get over this terrible mistake. Once again, we apologize for the inconvenience caused.
“We will be delighted to see every Monday happy and healthy. If your child has vomiting, diarrhea or fever, please leave him at home until the symptoms disappear. The HSE advice is 48 hours.”
