59 PEOPLE WITH Covid-19 have been admitted to the hospital in the last 24 hours, the highest number recorded since the beginning of April.
The new admissions figure released daily since April 4 hasn’t been that high since 57 people were admitted to the hospital on April 9.
The data is recorded on the government’s Covid-19 Data Hub with figures updated at 8am this morning.
Yesterday 36 people were admitted to the hospital and the day before 39 people. 24 people were discharged from the hospital in the last 24 hours.

454 people are now in the hospital with Covid-19, the highest number since mid-May.
Yesterday the first Covid-19 vaccine in the Republic of Ireland was administered to a 79-year-old woman at St James Hospital.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Ronan Glynn said these vaccines are a “very important milestone” but will not have “a positive impact on the profile of the disease in Ireland in the coming weeks”.

Yesterday the highest number of cases registered in the North and the Republic was registered, with 1,546 confirmed cases here. Nine more deaths were also recorded.
In Northern Ireland, 1,566 cases and 14 deaths were reported.
The cabinet will meet today to discuss possible additional restrictions due to the spread of the virus and hospitalization figures.

Taoiseach Micheál Martin is expected to make an announcement on the decision later today.
Speaking to RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Public Expenditure Minister Michael McGrath said that Cabinet will have to decide today whether to change or remove “some or all” of the amendments to the Level 5 restrictions currently in force.
“We are in troubled times. We have to respond to the situation as we see it. And the reality is here that there is a UK variant now confirmed in Ireland, we are dealing with something unknown there, ”he said.
“We do not know to what extent it is contributing to the rate of spread of the virus at the moment, but it is true that the growth rate of the virus in recent times exceeds all predictions.”
