The Government is expected to approve the Covid-19 vaccination plan later this morning and will be published this afternoon.
The plan will list the five types of locations where vaccines will be provided.
They include hospitals and health facilities, nursing homes, mass vaccination centers, GP surgeries, and community pharmacies.
Under the plan, up to 14.3 million doses of the vaccine could be purchased from possibly six different companies at a cost of more than 112 million euros.
It will be available to people for free.
The first group, those 65 and older in long-term care, are expected to receive the vaccine in January.
People in nursing homes are likely to receive the vaccine from a mobile medical team at a nearby hospital.
However, it is anticipated that it could be late spring or early summer before large numbers of people receive the vaccine.
It is at this point that mass vaccination centers will open in places like Citywest in Dublin.
General practitioners and pharmacists are expected to play a greater role once larger sections of society have been vaccinated.
The vaccines will be stored in a centralized facility, the location of which will not be disclosed.
A new IT system will be developed before the end of the year to allow people to register online for the first and second doses of the vaccine.
The government has said that doctors, nurses and pharmacists will receive specialized training to administer the vaccine.
